I am dealing with 2 issues simultaneously. 3 years ago I gave up everything in my life to be with a man I thought was my soulmate and who also became my spiritual teacher. Now he has moved away and says I need to concentrate on my spiritual development. I feel abandoned and confused and am struggling to go forward in my life. I am still committed to my spiritual growth. I meditate daily but it seems I am not getting anywhere. I have been told I have many spiritual gifts and my guide will be teaching me but it seems my spiritual perceptions have not grown. Seems like my life is falling apart and full of turmoil and emotional pain. - Janice

Dear Janice,

Your heart is hurting so it is difficult for you to make progress at this time in the spiritual space that you are trying to enter. This is not uncommon, beloved one, that when there is grief to be repaired, that spiritual progress takes a back burner in terms of the emotional work to be done.

In relation to the circumstances that govern your present dilemma, there are many times that souls come together for a short period of time in order to further each other's learning and in order to bring love, hope, and light into each other's life. The problem with this kind of meeting which is often profoundly significant and often very intense, is that the movement back and forth between the soul level of being and the personality level of the embodied self creates a lack of constancy in the relationship. When souls meet in a deep way, it often seems permanent and unchangeable, and then when life or other lower level variables begin to intrude, other kinds of changes in the relationship begin to appear.

There is no way to understand this, dearest Janice, other than to know it is a not uncommon dilemma that has to do with the way truth appears at the soul level of perception and the way truth appears when one is more immersed in the reality of the embodied self. This shift does not necessarily involve external reality changing, but rather a change in levels of perception that may take place internally.

At this time, it is important for you to deal with the grief you are feeling and to know that that, too, is a profitable experience for you to be learning from, not to become cynical as a result of, but to know what deep and profound an exchange you have experienced during this last relationship and to know that your independent progress forward as a spiritual being required this preliminary phase of encounter and then dissolution of the relationship.

More than that cannot be said at this time, dearest. Only that we understand your pain and confusion, and wish that your heart could be spared the sorrow of such a significant loss. There are those who will be coming into your life in the future that will more than make up for this sense of grief and loss, but for now, it is only important that you deal with what is. Blessings of the realms of light and of your own higher self, for you have faithfully followed the calling of your heart and spirit and must now proceed with trust into the future.
